Blog assignment #1

My Life
My name is Amanda Rice. I graduated from Tate High School in 1999. I got married at the age of eighteen and moved to Okinawa, Japan after high school. From there I moved to San Diego ,California, Pace, Florida, and Florence, Kentucky. After I lived in Kentucky we moved back to Walnut Hill, Florida in which I currently reside. I have two beautiful daughters, Allison age eleven and Shelby age eight. I was married for eleven years and my divorce was final October 2011.

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a child. When I graduated, getting married and moving around became more important to me than getting my education. I also started a family. I wish I would have went to school sooner than now, but I'm glad I got the experiences I did during that time. I became PTA secretary at my daughters school for one year and then I was PTA president for two years. That gave me a passion for working with children. I then began substituting and later got a full time job as a teacher aide. During this time I started pursuing my degree in Elementary Education.

I was a substitute teacher, grades pre-K - twelfth for two years and then a teacher aide at a high school for one year. I'm currently on a year leave of absence from the before mentioned teacher aide position. I am perusing my Elementary Education degree currently at USA. I have transferred from Faulkner State CC. My intentions were to transfer to UWF originally. I started dating a guy from Mobile about four months ago and he is the reason I choose to go to USA instead.

I enjoy fishing, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, water skiing, and watching football and hockey. I also play softball for the church I go to in Atmore, Alabama. I think fishing is my favorite thing to do. I enjoy both salt water and fresh water fishing.

Randy Pausch on Time Management
I learned that I should not waist time. I also learned to do things that matter most and not frivolous things. Planning is an important part of time management, but I must be flexible with the plans I make. I should always start with the harder task on my to do list. Accomplishing the hardest task first leaves the rest of the list with easier tasks to do.

Optional
I have some time management problems, but for the most part I get things done in a timely manner. I have accomplished good grades working full time, and I'm a single mother of two. Any advice I can get I will take. I learned that the planner I have is a much needed tool for time management. I also need to be more specific about my to do list other than just broad statements. I need to monitor my time to see what I could change in my schedule to give myself more important time.
